Not that doing V8 first helped with the lack of rCorr - I finally found an amulet of resist corrosion in.the vaults at the bottom of the slime pit. (How's your Stealth?) Though it might also depend on the layout - I seem to recall one possible layout for Elf:7 that left you fighting them across water/lava, which would be a Very Bad Thing.Īs for me, I did indeed go V8 then Slime. I'd probably go Elf, Slime, then Zot - the Elves really aren't that bad, as long as you're careful to engage in small groups, and take out the demonologists first. My second choice would be to get what resists I can (probably rF+ rN+) and try Vault:8.Ĭongrats on hitting L27 - I think this is my 4th character to reach that point (a DEIE who died on Zot:5, a SpSt winner, and a DEWz winner). #Dungeon crawl stone soup draconian full#I'm tempted to grab some randart gear (I think I can scrape together a full set) and try Slime I've got plenty of wands of digging+scrolls of recharging and magic mapping, so I might be able to swing a surgical strike down to the Royal Jelly. I don't have any source of rCorr available. KoBe's still chugging along - Trog has since yielded a +4, +9 quick blade (now vorpalized, and my primary weapon) and a +10, +6 dagger which I could swap out, but that only gives me one pip). This applies doubly so for an Arcane Marksman where you get spells too. I'm not saying it isn't viable, but if you really want to run a hunter, start as one. By then, it's "costly" to switch to bows because you've probably already pumped up melee type skills. Launchers are uncommon/rare until you start running into centaurs. A halfling hunter might be better starting as melee and getting a sling on the ground but even that's risky. Hmm.that almost makes it sound like the smarter plan is to roll your preferred melee class.īows are rare early going. That is pretty hard actually I've only accomplished it once, where I had IIRC ~200 +3 arrows which made it pretty easy to go along, until I died stupidly to a centaur captain. Then the goal is to find enchantment scrolls so you can enchant as much ammo as possible up to +3 or +4 or so to prevent mulching. Try to get that up to 5-ish, using ammo only in emergencies. Nagas - how the heck do you get a Naga anywhere? Slow, fragile, no weapon proficiencies to speak of, and poison breath misses way, way, waaay too often.Ī few different Paladins, primarily MD - they usually at least see the Temple before something does them in from range.Ī variety of hunters/arcane marksmen - that always run out of ammo before the Temple.Īny general non-obvious suggestions for rolling melee? (Or archery, for that matter?)įor a hunter, I usually don't even use the starting bow/sling/whatever as soon as I have the first weapon. Powered by Death helps a little when I get it, but it's not enough. Tried a variety of demonspawns - while they seem powerful on 1-5, they seem to skill up awfully slowly, and that leads to death once I get deeper. Lots of MfTms and SeTms, mostly of Che - while it's interesting, I always seem to run into something out-of-depth that I can't get away from in time. I'm thinking I'll try the Mines first, hoping to score a flaming dagger in there.Īlso, for bonus irony - an early bailey yielded 8 potions of gain int. Don't have much good armor (+Inv Stlth++ ring mail, sInv helm, and rElec gloves, that's it), and no small flaming blade - so I think the first hydra I see may still kill me. That's what I've got rolling now - just cleared the Hive (all the way down on 16) after skipping past the Lair, and I've got several nice blades (sabre of speed, dagger of venom, randart draining+MR sabre, dagger of holy wrath). After you clear a room, *don't move* until the slow wears off Know when berserking is enough, or if you need to throw up regen and/or summon first. Don't really have to manage XP, eat until you're engorged and then sac everything else, and don't train Throwing up too high so that Trog throws small blades at you. Meat's suggestion - they're the thing I've had the most luck with. (First time, died to a hydra second one is still alive, so far.) I think since the DEWz victory back in January, I've seen the lair exactly twice. #Dungeon crawl stone soup draconian how to#Been a long dry spell in Crawl-ing - I've been trying to avoid primary-casters, and coming to the conclusion that I don't know how to play a weapon-based Crawl character.
